Tips to Get Yourself Ready for Running Season

As the weather warms up and race calendars fill, now is the perfect time to shake off winter, lace up your shoes, and start preparing your body and mind for running season. Here are some tips from our team of instructors that can help you get ready for a new running season.

1. Get New Shoes: Start the new running season with a new pair of running shoes. We tap the experts at running stores like Dick Pond and The Running Depot to get fitted because the shoes that felt great during your runs last season may not feel great on your runs this season.

2. New Playlist = New Energy: Create a fresh new playlist to carry you into a new running season. New music can help energize you through every mile.

3. Sign up for a Running Program: Whether you ran all winter or took a cold-weather hiatus, a structured running training program like our Run Club+ can help you safely build miles and endurance. Look for a program that include rest days, strength training days, and has accountability woven in. All this will keep you motivated and ready for any upcoming race.

4. Stock up to Fuel up: Load your fridge and pantry with foods that fuel endurance, support muscle recovery, and provide sustained energy. Some of our faves are bananas (packed with potassium), eggs (protein that supports muscle repair), whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, whole wheat pasta for energy), nuts & nut butters (healthy fats and protein for sustained energy).

5. Get Gear for the Season: Runs can start out cold in the spring but you warm up quickly. Get running gear that you can layer on, but remove and stash away easily if you get hot. Plus a good fitting sports bra will be your best friend.
